The Sunnah Before (Beginning) The Du`aa

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله , in his explanation to "Riyaadh al-Saaliheen", said: “The Sunnah before (beginning) the du`aa is to praise Allaah as has been mentioned in ‘al-Tahiyyaat’*, then after that to send the prayer upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, then (he should make) the du`aa. And this is how it should be done also when he is making the du`aa in Sujood (prostration), or at any other time; he should praise Allaah, send prayers upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and then supplicates to his Lord for whatever he wishes, and this is the first step for the du`aa being answered.”

Weakness of the Ahaadith regarding the number of Prophets as 124,000

First Point:

I (al-Albaanee) say: the Hadeeth of Qaasim, which Ma`aan bin Rifaa`ah reported that `Ali bin Yazeed reported on the authority of Qaasim Abi `Abdul Rahmaan on the authority of Abi Umaamah a long Hadeeth, and in it (Abi Umaamah) said: “O Prophet of Allaah! Who was the first Prophet?” He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Aadam عليه السلام”. I said: “O Prophet of Allaah! Was Aadam the first Prophet?” He said: “Yes, the prophet (to whom Allaah) spoke, and Allaah created him with His hand, and breath into him from His soul (which He created for Aadam).” I said: “O Messenger of Allaah! How many Prophets were there? He said: “One Hundred and Twenty Four Thousand (124,000), and the Messengers amongst them were Three Hundred and Fifteen (315).” It was reported by Ahmad (2/265). `Ali bin Yazeed, he is al-Alhaanee and he is weak. And Ma`aan bin Rifaa`ah is Layin (soft, i.e. not strong) in Hadeeth as is mentioned in ‘al-Taqreeb’. And al-Haithamee said in ‘al-Majmu`’ (1/159): it has been reported by Ahmad and by al-Tabaraanee in ‘al-Kabeer’ and it revolves around `Ali bin Yazeed and he is weak.
