The Islaamic Ruling On Celebrating Birthdays

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وبعد

Celebrating birthdays is like self glorification. People celebrate their life every year and forget the reality that death is promised to all. The most important thing is whether we would die obeying our creator or obeying our desires.

And if you say that you celebrate it because you want to thank Allaah for another year in your life; then know that you should be thankful to Allaah for that everyday you live and that every breath you take. You should thank Him in the ways which Allaah has prescribed and the way the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has described. Singling out one day like this is not the way we were taught by our Prophet and if there was any benefit in it, he صلى الله عليه وسلم would have informed us.

Virtues And Recommended Deeds Of The First 10 Days Of Dhul Hijjah

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijja)." Then some companions of the Prophet said, "Not even Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allaah's sake) and does not return with any of those things." [Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 2, Hadeeth 86]

The Grave Mistake

Allaah says: “Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills; and whoever sets up partners with Allaah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin.” [Surah al-Nisaa (4): 48]
